BMXOriginally the human powered form of Moto-Cross
BMX originates back in the late 70's but peaked in popularity in the early eighties. Originally the human powered form of Moto-Cross where instead of a motorbike, riders would tear round a circuit of bumps and jumps on a small wheeled bike with a single gear. BMX (Bicycle Moto Cross) gradually developed and manufacturers began to make bikes which suited the circuits.
The style of bike became very popular with the younger rider, particularly teenagers who adopted this new "style" of bike as their own. As with many types of bikes, the BMX evolved into more than just a race circuit bike.
BMX Jump Bikes
BMX Jump/Dirt bikes are designed to soar through the air with the greatest of ease - and survive the landings. Features include extra heavy-duty frames, wheels and components. The aspiring astronaut's bike of choice.
BMX Race Bikes
BMX Racing bikes are the pedal-powered offshoots of motocross motorcycles and are built for fast, tough per- formance on dirty, muddy, bumpy and jump-filled BMX race courses. Featuring heavy-duty frames and wheels, single gears and hand brakes.
BMX Street Bikes
Street Riding is a discipline ridden in both BMX and MTB, and can take a very similar form between the two styles of bike. The basic idea is to use obstacles provided as 'street furniture' such as benches or inclined walls, to perform tricks. For a description of the BMX discipline, see here.
