City Bikes

Emphasis is on practicality and comfort

City Bikes

This has many names just to confuse us all: hybrid, trekking, city, etc. Basically the emphasis is on practicality and comfort. All these will either come equipped with or accept mudguards and racks. Many models are available with suspension seatposts and / or suspension forks, squishy saddles and most have wide 700c tyres. Optimum comfort is achieved with adjustable handlebar stems. Lighting systems are getting better and better, with rechargeable battery lights and superior dynamo systems.

Remember the single-speed, coaster-brake, balloon-tire bikes? They're back. With white walls and wide handle- bars, too. Preferred by those who like life simple, slow and retro.

City Bikes - Comfort

City Bikes - Comfort

Comfort bikes feature an upright riding position and comfort components like suspension in the seat and han- dlebars to turn a ride into a glide. With beefy frames and wheels - and other civilized accoutrements like fenders - they're not the lightest bikes on the block. But the people who ride them believe it's not how fast you get there, but how comfortably.

City Bikes - Hybrid

City Bikes - Hybrid

Hybrids are just what their name suggests: a cross between a mountain and a road bike - specifically, a mountain bike's geometry combined with a road bike's lighter, faster construction and components. Not as rugged as a mountain bike, not as fast as a road bike, but a ... hybrid. A favorite for urban commuting, fitness or just plain fun.
