The scheme the Chancellor has announced gives a generous tax exemption scheme, open to all employees, designed to ensure greater use of bikes (The Green Transport Plan) to promote healthier journeys to work, and take action to reduce environmental pollution.

On our gross salary you could be paying P.A.Y.E at 22% to 40%

On our gross salary you could be paying N.I. 11%

When an employee is due to receive his monthly wage the 12 payments are deducted from your gross pay therefore saving P.A.Y.E.  PLUS  N.I.

On top of this the employer if registered can reclaim the V.A.T. of 17.5% thus reducing the price even further.

Listing  total consessons could be as much as 22% + 10% +17.5%=49.5%

Putting this into practice a £1000 bike could cost the employee £505

The scheme is operated through the employer, and allows the employer to provide employees with a maximum annual tax exemption of £1000 to purchase high quality cycles, with comprehensive support, as a tax free benefit, fully endorsed by the Inland Revenue.

It's an incredibly generous, far sighted move by the Government, that absolutely everyone can take advantage of. All that's required is for your employer to take up the scheme, and offer it around. So it's worth checking that your employer has heard about it, and knows that Peter from Peter Hansford Ltd. and Stephen Bennett from On Your Bike are here, ready to make it all happen effortlessly!
